The statutory minimum wage will rise as planned to an initial 10.45 euros per hour on July 1, 2022. On October 1, however, the minimum wage will rise once again to 12 euros gross per hour. With the cabinet decision on February 23, 2022, to increase the minimum wage to 12 euros from October, the German government is deviating from the agreed approach on a one-off basis. Future adjustments will again be made on the proposal of the Minimum Wage Commission.
In order to allow a weekly working time of ten hours, the mini-job limit rises to 520 euros with the increase in the minimum wage on October 1. In the future, it will be adjusted in line with the development of the minimum wage.
This also applies to extras who, due to their status under social security law, have previously been employed on a professional basis if their monthly gross pay from short-term employment exceeded 450 euros. These can now earn up to 520 euros/month from October 2022 with short-term employment free of social security contributions.
